Guests enter an old and decrepit theater, once glamorous but now falling into disrepair. They are drawn further into the building by a mysterious green light emanating from the next room. I wanted to capture the grime and neglect of this first room, setting guests on edge and overall adding to the foreboding of stepping into this abandoned theater.
Guests make their way to the stage only to find a performance already in progress. They view the show from behind the backdrop, but can see a silhouette of the dancers through it. One of the performers kills her costar mid performance for stealing the spotlight, and guests must hurry offstage before they are next. This scene would utilize projections to create the illusion of viewing the show through the scrim, using the curtains and ropes to frame the scene and hide the screen.
About to enter the carpenter's shops, guest encounter a sign advising they don protective hard hats, but as they continue towards the shelf, some of the hardhats have been replaced by severed heads, a warning guests that the carpenter seems to be sawing more than just wood. This scene is where the blood and gore intensifies as we reach the halfway point and I wanted this room to feel disgusting and bloody.
Guests venture backstage in this newly reanimated theater into the dressing rooms. As one of the first big rooms in the house, I wanted to have a lot of elements to overstimulate and distract the guests, making the scares more impactful. It is filled with curtains and racks of costumes that brush against guests' shoulders and carnival lights flicker overhead. Scare actors reach through to grab at the guests, hurrying them along to avoid being pulled into the depths of the theater.
